Most nights at dinner, there was some sort of ice carving on display. Tonight, we got a demonstration of how it was done. Three artists situated themselves in the pool area and each carved a different sculpture.
The ice is prepared off ship by a special process involving distilled water, salt water and a centrifuge. The result is an ice block that is exceptionally clear and far more dense than if frozen conventionally. This allows the sculpture to hold its detail and not melt away as fast.
