Barely visible along the edge of the ship, just above the woman's arm, is one of two rowboats that come out to capture lines thrown from the ship. These will be pulled back to the jetty where they will be attached to electric locomotives used to guide us through the canal.

Why rowboats? Turns out they are more reliable and effective for this delicate operation than any motor boat they have tried.
